Aluk has come full circle. A single mom of 3 boys, she moved her family from the war in Sudan to Kenya. From Kenya, they ventured to Egypt and then to Canada.
Once here, Aluk faced cultural and language barriers that also affected her ability to obtain gainful employment. She worked in WINS Thrift Stores until an opportunity came up to attend school full time to learn English.
When Aluk completed her studies, she was re-entering the work force and found a tougher economy.
She learned that WINS was offering employment opportunities and was excited to apply.Starting as a store associate, and she worked her way up to store manager.
From her work with WINS, Aluk has furthered her command of the English language and is able to support her family on her own. “I am a happy and confident mother” she tells us.
